Pulitzer Prize for Fiction

For distinguished fiction published in book form during the year by an American author, preferably dealing with American life. The award was established in 1917 by the will of Joseph Pulitzer and is administered by Columbia University. Prior to 1948, it was referred to as the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel and has been awarded annually with the following exceptions 1917, 1941, 1946, 1954, 1957, 1964, 1971, 1977 and 2012. Beginning in 1980, finalists were also named.
